Brunswick Stew is a Southern Comfort classic that is comfort food at its finest. In this video, we'll show you how to make Brunswick Stew the perfect way, using all the best ingredients.

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves chopped garlic
  • 1 medium can of corn, drained (I use peaches and cream but use the corn of your choice)
  • 1 1/2 cup diced tomatoes (A medium can will suffice, undrained)
  • 2 cups chicken stock
  • 2 cups shredded pork (Use leftovers or buy it from the store)
  • 2 cups shredded chicken (Same as the pork.)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup bbq sauce (I use Stubs hickory, but use the sauce of your choice.)
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 2 cups lima beans (You can use butter beans as well.)
  1. Add the butter to a pan over medium high heat and allow it to melt down. Add in the onion. Stir and saute until just about translucent. Add in the garlic. Stir and saute until fragrant - about 2 minutes.

  2. Add all of the remaining ingredients, except for the lima beans, to the pot. Stir and bring to a boil.

  3. Partially cover, reduce the heat to medium, and allow to simmer for about 40 minutes.

  4. After 40 minutes, add in the lima beans and simmer for an additional 10 minutes. 

    If you are using frozen or fresh lima beans, you can add them in with the rest of the ingredients.
  5. Ladle into a serving bowl and enjoy your Brunswick stew.

I used left over chicken and pork. You can also buy it from the store or make it fresh. For example, boil chicken breasts and shred them.

Frozen of fresh lima beans work best. If you use them, you can add them in with the rest of the ingredients. The canned can become mushy. That's why I add them in last.

Feel freed to add extra ingredients if you are so inclined.
