Instructions

  1. Place the cubed chicken thighs into a large bowl. Sprinkle the salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, thyme, basil, and celery salt over the chicken and toss until every piece is evenly coated.

  2. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned chicken and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through.

  3. While the chicken is cooking, prepare the burger sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, ketchup, Dijon mustard, sweet pickle juice, sweet pickle relish, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper until smooth. Set aside or spoon into a squeeze bottle.

  4. Once the chicken is fully cooked, reduce the heat to low. Lay the American cheese slices over the chicken, cover with a lid, and cook for about 1 minute, or until the cheese has melted.

  5. Remove the skillet from the heat. Sprinkle the shredded lettuce evenly over the top, followed by the chopped tomatoes and chopped green onion.

  6. Serve immediately with toasted sesame seed buns on the side for the full chicken burger experience. Enjoy!

Note

Additional Notes

  • Boneless, skinless chicken breasts can be substituted for the chicken thighs if preferred. Just be careful not to overcook them.
  • Cook the chicken until it's nicely browned to develop the best flavor.
  • American processed cheese gives this recipe its classic chicken burger flavor and creamy melt.
  • Shred the lettuce just before serving to keep it crisp and fresh.
  • If using a squeeze bottle for the sauce, use a finely minced sweet pickle relish to help prevent clogging.
  • Toast the sesame seed buns for extra flavor and texture.
  • This recipe is best served immediately while the cheese is hot and the lettuce is still crisp.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days. For best results, store the burger sauce separately and add the fresh toppings after reheating.
