Onion Bacon Bombs – A Bomb of BBQ Flavor

onion bacon bombs
I had these onion wrapped bacon bombs at a party one summer and just couldn't forget them. The next day at home I had to try and reproduce them. One of my quirky habits. I think what made it more alluring was the fact that it was summer time and thus BBQ time on the old homestead. I just love beef, bacon, and onions done on the grill. In light of that, it seemed to be the perfect recipe. There is just something about the combination. In light of this, I decided to fire up the grill.

Ingredients
  • 450 grams lean ground beef (1 lb.)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Ketchup
  • 2 dashes Tabasco sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 large White onion, cored into round sections
Instructions
  1. Place the ground beef into a bowl. Add in the egg, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, tabasco, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. Lay the cored onions out on a flat surface. Grab up a hand full of the mixture and make it into a ball. Place it inside the onion cores.

  3. Wrap the balls with a slice of bacon and place them on a wire rack over a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Insert a toothpick through each ball to secure it.

  4. Place in a 425 degree F 210 C preheated oven and bake for about 45 minutes.

  5. Serve with your favourite sauce. Enjoy your onion bacon bombs.

Note

I use lean ground beef to avoid a lot of fat. One of the key ingredients is the bacon. Use a good brand and it will make the world of difference. As always, you can adjust the seasoning according to your liking.
