  1. Add the fries to an air fryer or oven and bake until golden brown. Set aside and keep warm.

  2. Add some butter to a pan over medium high heat and place oil in to stop the butter from burning. Add the onions in and season with salt to extract the water. Fry over medium high for a few minutes and then reduce the heat to medium low. Sir and fry until caramelized and set aside in a bow.

  3. Add the ground beef to the same pan over medium high heat. Break it up well and season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Fry until no longer pink and cooked through. Move the beef to one side of the pan and add in the garlic. Stir and sauté until fragrant. Mix well.

  4. Sprinkle the flour over the top. Stir and fry for a couple of minutes. Add in the beef broth slowly. You want a gravy that's not too sloppy. Start with half a cup and add as necessary. Add in the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and mustard. Stir until combined. Put the onions in and stir once again. Add in one cup of cheese and continue to stir.

  5. Place the fries on a plate and spoon the beef mixture over the top. Top with cheese and chopped green onions.

  6. Serve and enjoy your Secret Diner Cheeseburger-Style Beef Over Fries!

Note

Cheese choice: American cheese gives the most classic diner-style melt, but cheddar or marble cheese work just as well.

Fries: Oven fries, air-fried fries, or homemade fries all work here. Cook them extra crisp so they hold up under the beef.

Pickle boost: For extra cheeseburger flavor, add sliced pickles or a spoonful of pickle relish on top.

Leftovers: Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat the beef separately and spoon over freshly heated fries.

Serving idea: Leftover beef is great on toasted buns or over baked potatoes the next day.
