  1. Brown the beef

Heat a large pan or cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, break it up, and cook until browned and cooked through.

  2. Add the aromatics

Push the beef to one side of the pan. Add the onion and garlic to the empty space and sauté for 1–2 minutes, until fragrant and beginning to soften. Stir everything together.

  3. Make the roux

Push everything to one side again. Add the butter and allow it to melt. Sprinkle in the flour and stir until a light roux forms. Mix everything together to coat evenly.

  4. Build the sauce

Add the crushed tomatoes and beef broth. Stir well to combine.

  5. Season

Season with salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, onion powder, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, red pepper flakes, and Dijon mustard. Stir until well incorporated.

  6. Add the noodles

Stir in the dry egg noodles, making sure they are mostly submerged in the sauce.

  7. Simmer

Cover the pan and simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the noodles are tender and the sauce has thickened.

  8. Finish

Stir in the cream and cook for another minute until everything is rich and creamy.

  9. Serve

Remove from heat and serve warm. Enjoy your Winter Warmer – One-Pan Beef & Noodles Supper.

Note

Noodles: Egg noodles work best here because they cook quickly and stay tender. If using rotini or another pasta, you may need a little extra broth and a few more minutes of simmering.

Consistency: If the sauce thickens too much while simmering, stir in a splash of beef broth or water to loosen it up.

Heat level: The red pepper flakes add a gentle warmth. Adjust to taste, or leave them out for a milder version.

Creaminess: The cream rounds out the sauce and softens the tomato flavour. For a lighter finish, use half-and-half or milk.

Make it your own: This is a forgiving recipe. Add mushrooms, bell peppers, or frozen peas if you have them on hand.

Leftovers: Reheat gently on the stovetop with a splash of broth to bring the sauce back to life.
