Ingredients
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons oil for cooking
  • 1 small onion, sliced into rings
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 medium thumb size ginger, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons water (Add more if you find the mixture too dry.)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 medium green onion, chopped for ganish
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
  1. Add the oil to a pan over medium high heat. Get the oil good and hot to the point where it begins to ripple and not smoke. Add in the beef and break it into about 2 inch pieces. Press down a bit and allow to fry for about 3 minutes until it begins to caramelize on the bottom. Flip and do the same on the other side. After the meat is caramelized on both sides break it up.

  2. Add in the onion, garlic, and ginger. Saute until they are fragrant. Add in the soy sauce, honey, pepper, and water. Stir until well combined. Turn off the heat and add the sesame oil. Stir once again.

  3. Serve over rice and garnish with green onions and sesame oil. Enjoy your 15 minute budget caramelized ground beef over rice.

Note
  1. Ingredient Substitutions: Feel free to customize this recipe based on your preferences and what you have on hand. You can substitute the ground beef with ground turkey, chicken, or even crumbled tofu for a vegetarian option.

  2. Rice Options: While we recommend using white rice for this recipe, you can also use brown rice or quinoa for a healthier alternative. Adjust the cooking time and liquid accordingly based on the type of rice you choose.

  3. Add Vegetables: Add some diced bell peppers, carrots, or peas to the dish for added color, flavor, and nutrition. Simply sauté them along with the ground beef for a few minutes before adding the rice.

  4. Spice Level: Adjust the amount of chili powder or add some red pepper flakes to increase the heat level of the dish, if desired.

  5. Garnish Ideas: Garnish the dish with chopped green onions, cilantro, or a squeeze of lime juice for a fresh burst of flavor.

  6. Storage and Reheating: This dish can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat it in the microwave or on the stovetop with a splash of water or broth to prevent it from drying out.

  7. Meal Prep Tip: This recipe is great for meal prep. Cook a batch ahead of time and portion it out into containers for easy grab-and-go meals throughout the week.

  8. Serving Suggestions: Serve the caramelized beef over rice with a side of steamed vegetables or a simple salad for a well-rounded meal.
