A Monte Cristo sandwich is incredibly easy to make. I enjoy them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The combination of French toast, ham, and cheese makes the perfect meal at any time of the day. Give them a try and let us know what you think.
The original recipe calls for Swiss cheese and ham. I like the Edam cheese and turkey breast because it gives the sandwich more of a zip. You can use white or brown bread. I always combine the butter with olive oil as it raises the burning temperature of the butter and gives the sandwich a nice crisp texture. Frying the Monte Cristo over medium heat for about 2 minutes on each side is just about perfect.
