Chicken cordon bleu casserole is rich, savory, and incredibly delicious. Its origins are from Switzerland, but it has spread to many parts of the globe. With the primary ingredients of chicken or veal, ham, cheese, and bread crumbs, it has a flavor to die for.
In this cordon bleu recipe, we have taken most of the primary ingredients from the original dish, except for the bread crumbs, and incorporated them into a casserole. The wonderful thing being, the entire dish can be made in about half an hour which makes it a superb weekday meal.
As always, you can change or alter some of the ingredients per your taste. For example, our recipe uses three simple spices: salt, pepper, and some dried parsley. You, however, can add garlic, onion powder, chili flakes for a touch of heat, etc. If you are so inclined, a few croutons or bread crumbs might be nice too.
I enjoy Philadelphia cream cheese, but any kind will suffice Itβs important the cream cheese be at room temperature, however, to make it easy to mix and spread. If you find the cheese and butter mixture is a touch on the dry side, add a bit more butter or some whole milk to make it easier to spread over the chicken. We use boneless, skinless chicken breasts as they are easy to work with and a little healthier.
Our chicken cordon bleu casserole always goes nicely with a garden salad and a glass of white wine. Give it a try and let us know what you think.
